New updates for: Churchill and revisiting the Claymore sword - October 26, 2024
Hello everyone. It's me Antony, back with another Blog in 2024. We are now on October 26 - past the half of 2024.
I know. I've been absent without writing anything new here. Job, studies, playing video-games, watching some YouTube videos, listening to some musics and doing my chores at some moments decreased my spare-time dedicated to Blogs.
I'm now working on the new role as health community agent and now, my colleagues and I are visiting the families as part of our job to improve the health quality in our community and town. Things are looking good and we're enjoying in our new role.
The 8th semester is finished. Another thing I won't be bothered with. After the second university, I'll give a break for good.
And, again, new Nightwave chapter has been released, with new cosmetics, new mods, new Warframe slot, new weapons slots, rewards from the previous chapters and more. Damn. This never ends and I'm waiting for 1999 to be released (only in winter I guess). Man, I feel exhausted, but let's go.
For this Blog, I'm going to share you the new rendered images of the Churchill Mk VII (initially, it would be the Mk IV, but there are few differences between the two models, like the escape route hatches, the commander cupola, the main gun and the 'lumps' in the forward section of the turret).
The Churchill received some minor changes, especially the top plate that protect the tracks, the hull and the wheels. The turret received a small antenna and a hole for the main gun and Besa MG - similar to the Crusader tank Mk III. In the main hull, I added some metal rings for the coaxial machine gun and a hatch for the driver.
For the smaller wheels, I'll replace the cylinders with springs and I'll make the base for it. Also, the front and rear wheels requires adjustments and a torsion bar to link them. Other components to make are the tracks, the commander cupola, the escape route hatches on the sides of the tank, and more. In the future, I'll add the decals for the tank, including the St. Gloriana from Girls und Panzer for Darjeeling's Churchill tank.
Now, speaking in anime content made in Blender, I decided to revisit the sword from Claymore in these days. Knowing that it used three separate textures, I came with the idea of unifying it to create a single texture and add a Bump texture for the symbol's depth aspect in the blade.
Let me show you what I did.
Alright. The Claymore sword. Now, with the textures unified into one. I did the same for the Specular and Metal textures.
The old model (the one with the golden parts a bit more glossy and less metallic aspect) uses the combination of Glossy, Diffuse and Power Node - all attached via AddShader. Only the blade uses the Principled Shader.
The new model (the one with more metallic aspect) uses the Principled Shader with the textures (Metal, Specular and Main), with the Bump / Displacement attached to the Material Output.
Another difference is the symbol placement. With the old one placed a bit closer to the center while the new one is a bit closer to the Chappe (Rain Guard) / Ricasso. Also, you can notice a small portion of the deepness from the lines due to the Displacement property.
The sword looks nice. If some of you prefer more realistic details, I may add the combat marks like the cuts in the blade's edge or some blood stains that couldn't be washed away.
The main texture for the sword is using Clare's symbol. I also made the ones for Priscilla, Irene (or Ilena in English dub version), Deneve, Teresa and Noel.

With the sword receiving these adjustments, I plan to replace the old model with this one. The idea is to reduce a number of separate materials. Most artists prefer to make one texture instead of several material textures for every component. The other characters (Miria, Ophelia, Helen, Rafaela, Alicia, Beth, Galatea, Flora, Jean, Undine, Veronica and my OCs Tony, Silvana, Olga, Anne and Amelia) will receive their own swords remade.
Well, that's it for now my friends. I hope you like this Blog. Let us hope this year bring us new content and something different from the usual. In case I have some spare time to enjoy, I'll be working on other things aside from Blender projects and my personal things. Until the time comes, you will be surprised to see them. See you next time.
