Concluding the Bf 110 and new updates for: F6F Hellcat, Fokker Dr.I and Sopwith Camel - June 20, 2025
Hello everyone. It's me Antony, back with another Blog in 2025.
We are now on June 19. The year is going by fast. The next few weeks will be short, with the next day off from work and the following week we'll have a holiday on Friday.
Now that I'm working on the new role as health community agent, my colleagues and I are visiting the families as part of our job to improve the health quality in our community and town. Things are looking good and we're enjoying in our new role.
And, again, new Nightwave chapter is still on - with announcement of its conclusion for the next Nora Mix. As usual. (: /)
Let's go for what it's important than Warframe. For this Blog, I'm going to share you the recent images of the Messerschmitt Bf 110, the Grumman F6F Hellcat, the Fokker Dr.I and the Sopwith Camel.
Messerschmitt Bf 110 C-7:
The Bf 110 received a big update after the last Blog showing its development (New updates for: Bf 110C-7, concluding the Tempest Mk V and new models in Sketchfab - December 15, 2024).
What changed was: I added the textures for the Bump, Metal and Specular, with minor modifications to the Diffuse texture, like the wearing marks, oil and smoke coming out from the ports. The antenna is also sharing the fuselage texture. The pilot's dashboard also modified. The idea is to reduce the volume of vertices, edges and faces, as well removing the Subdivision Surface for the dashboard. The roundels are also part of the main texture.
I didn't include the ZG (Zerstörergeschwader - German for Destroyer Wing) emblem like the ZG 1 (the one with a hornet / wasp drawing on the Bf 110's nose) nor the ZG 26 "Horst Wessel". I may include it in the future, along the Nachtjagdgeschwader (Night Fighter Wing) with the Bf 110 G-4.
With the Bf 110 C-7 complete, the model has been updated to Sketchfab.
Bf 110 C-7:
Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat:
I made the UV Mapping for the F6F Hellcat. The wings were a bit complicated - especially the middle section and the segments that link one piece to another. This reflected on the textures while I was working on the Bump texture. I may change it, although I'm not sure.
Still, the American naval fighter received a nice Diffuse texture. I may add the white / light grey for the area next to the wings. The roundels were included to the main texture, with a nice effect to make it a bit darker. Some textures will have the blue navy color masked to blend with the fuselage's texture - especially the late versions of the F6F-5 and the F6F-5N.
The next update will show you the Bump textures for the fuselage and wings complete, along the Metal and Specular. But that will be a topic for another Blog.
Now, for the next part of this Blog. Although I concluded the Fokker Dr.I and the Sopwith Camel, I decided to update it while I was working on the SPAD S.XIII. The main component that received a rework was the wooden propeller blade.
Fokker Dr.I (Manfred von Richthofen):
Fokker Dr.I (Werner Voss):
Like I said, while I was working on the French SPAD S.XIII, I've managed to make its propeller according to the blueprints. It was not easy to make, but the results were promising. Then I saved it in a separate Blender project file for future designs and textures.
Taking advantage of the idea, I made small changes to different models from the original. For the Fokker Dr.I's propeller, I had to adjust its tips and edges to match the drawings. At least I'm glad with the final results.
The next textures I plan to add are dedicated to Lothar von Richthofen, Kurt Wolff, Josef Jacobs, Ernst Udet and other German pilots.
Sopwith Camel (Royal Flying Corps):
Sopwith Camel (United States Army Air Service):
And now, the iconic British Sopwith Camel. The minor change from the original SPAD S.XIII propeller is the white painting on the tips. Apart from that, the model is the same from the French biplane.
With the Bf 110 concluded and the F6F-5 nearly complete, my collection of WW2 planes is growing.
Before I could start a new aircraft, I plan to conclude the existing ones like the Gloster Meteor, Junkers Ju 87 Stuka, Ju 88, Heinkel He 111, Focke-Wulf FW 190 D-9, Messerschmitt Me 262, Lavochkin La-7, Ilyushin IL-2, Macchi C.202 Folgore and C.205 Veltro.
What about the tanks, vehicles and firearms?
They will be reviewed and adjusted to reduce the volume of subdivisions. Mainly the tanks and vehicles since a considerable number of components are using Subdivision Surface and Bevel modifiers - increasing the number of vertices and faces to 1 million and the edges and faces around 2 millions to 3 millions.
I'm not sure when, but, after concluding the last plane from my collection (the existing ones), I'll revisit the tanks and start a big rework.
The firearms may have some components that could be remade. That would be a topic for another Blog.
Well, that's it for now my friends. I hope you like this Blog. Let us hope this year bring us new content and something different from the usual. In case I have some spare time to enjoy, I'll be working on other things aside from Blender projects and my personal things. Until the time comes, you will be surprised to see them. See you next time.
