New Updates for: P-51D and FW 190A-8 - December 12, 2021
Hello everyone. It's me Antony, back with another Blog.
December arrived and the year is close to the end. Before we move on to the next year, let's write another Blog of 2021; hoping for the things to get better as the World continues in this fight for survival and to develop a (possible) cure for the COVID-19 pandemic - which I'm sure most of the people are vaccinated and taking all the precautions to avoid spreading the virus.
For this month, my university semester has been concluded - allowing me to rest from the studies while my addition to my service at the public health center is still in course.
Now for this Blog. I'm going to show you the new adjustments of the P-51D-15 Mustang and Focke-Wulf FW 190 A-8. Let me show you what I did so far.
North American P-51D-15 Mustang:
These new renders look amazing. What I did for the time being was the rework on the tail fin. I removed the section that linked the rudder from the main mesh for the rework. I'll show you the new images to compare the old version to the new one.

The tail fin from the old version was part of the main structure of the fuselage. As I looked at some photos and images of the P-51D, I knew the tail rudder has considerable differences between the P-51D-5, P-51D-15 / P-51D-25 and P-51H versions. The D-5 version has no tail fin that could extend a little to the main antenna, while the D-15 and D-25 has a tail fin. I remember the P-51H has a tall rudder, but the H version will be made in the future since it is a post-WW2 plane. For the model, I'll use the P-51D-15 tail version for the American plane.
The next thing to do is the Mustang texture in order to replace too many materials in order to reduce it for Unity or any other game engine like Unreal.
Focke-Wulf FW 190A-8:
The German FW 190 received a temporary light blue texture along a gray texture in place of the old silvered texture. Since it will have a light blue painting on its belly and under its wings, I decided to use it as the main texture.
Other components included were the flaps and the engine outlet under its nose. After I made the flaps, I had to remade the animations for flight mode, combat mode and landing mode.
The FW 190 received a new texture for its fuselage. The main idea is to avoid using too much different materials in case I export the model to Unity or to any 3D game engine program like Unreal. The fuselage, the spinner, the canopy, the inner section from where the BMW 801 engine is located, the elevator and the rudder received a nice combination of yellow, blue, gray, dark gray and dark green colors. Yet, the wings and fairings were the last thing that lacked a nice texture.
While I was looking at the texture, I decided to use Gimp 2 for a small correction and addition of new layers of materials. I painted some smoke coming from the outlets and weapons and added a gray mask for the dark green colors - making a nice desaturated green color. I may use it for the BF 109 in case I revisite the project and remade its texture.
After the main fuselage, I made the texture for the wings. Using the same method, I made a gray mask for the dark green texture, the smokes from the engine exhaustion and shells outlets. Also, I painted some scraps at the wing 'root' (from where it's connected to the fuselage) - indicating the painting being removed as the pilot entered the aircraft several missions. I may use it for the other planes, but that will be for another time.
I could say the Focke-Wulf FW 190 is complete, unless I would make the texture for the instrument panel. I may plan to make different textures for this German plane - one in particular inspired in Manfred von Richthofen - the Red Baron, famous WW1 German Ace.
Well, that's it for now my friends. I hope you enjoy this Blog. In case I have some spare time to enjoy, I'll be working on other things aside from Blender projects and my personal things. Until the time comes, you will be surprised to see them. See you next time.
