New updates for: Albatros D.II / D.III - September 8th, 2025
Hello everyone. It's me Antony, back with another Blog in 2025. We are now on September 8th - past the half of 2025.
The year is going by fast. The following days will be pretty long due to work and vacations are scheduled for October. At least it would be nice to have a month to rest after several days of work. I'll finally be able to get back to my other projects during the holidays.
And, again, new Nightwave chapter is still on, but my brother and I have reached level 30 after several performed challenges. As usual. (: /)
Let's go for what it's important than Warframe. For this Blog, I'm going to share you the recent images of the Albatros D.II and D.III.
Albatros D.II:
The Albatros D.II received its wings and struts to sustain it. Although they don't have the tips, they look good. In addition to these, I added a pair of Windhoff "ear" radiators - located on the fuselage, next to the main strut. So far, it's looking good.
Incredible, huh? I tried to make the Mercedes D.III 6 cylinder in-line engine while searching for more pictures, photos and 3D models on the Internet. Too bad not all biplanes survived the war, even more pictures of its sections. Still, it looks good.
The engine exhaustion outlet was made with Bezier Curve. The idea is to avoid relying on Subdivision Surface modifier. Same thing for the pistons and engine shaft.
Nice view from the cockpit. Some times I feel I want to command these legendary warbirds, like the Red Baron. (chuckles)
Another thing I added to the Albatros D.II is the wooden tail-skid and the tips for the strings linked from the elevator to the fuselage. The seat and the stick were imported from the Fokker Dr.I project. Minor update is the struts from the fuselage - which it is complete.
More components were added to the engine, more strings were added to the wings and fuselage, a minor update on the radiators and some holes were added to the spinner for fitting the propeller blades. The last component was using the Solidify modifier. I applied it while leaving the Subdivision Surface still as preview. In order to spare the model from extra vertices, edges, faces and triangles, I removed the mesh for the internal section.
Curious thing about the spinner: The Austro-Hungarian Oeffag D.II and D.III often had the spinners removed. I plan to make it once the German biplanes are concluded.
Another change was the upper section of the fuselage for the engine housing. I changed its wooden Material to a metallic one. In addition, I made some adjustments in order to fit the outlet with that section.
After these renders, I added a round windshield and more pipes for the Mercedes engine.
Albatros D.III:
And now, the German Albatros D.III. The two biplanes share the fuselage, engine, armament and undercarriage design. The major differences are the wings and its struts. The D.II counts with two parallel struts and the wings have the same dimensions; while the D.III counts with a V-shaped struts but the lower wing had its dimensions reduced, thus having a lower drag compared to other biplanes of the era, designated as sesquiplane.
Although the upper wing remain the same from the D.II model, the lower wing is a new model - designed especially for this model. Still, it's looking good.
The next thing to do is making the upper wing and adding the radiator on top of it. Some OAW D.III sesquiplanes have a curved rudder. I plan to add it as well. After that, I'll rig these two planes and paint it. And of course, I'll paint the D.III in red for Manfred's red plane, as well the other planes from the Flying Circus.
Well, that's it for now my friends. I hope you like this Blog. Let us hope this year bring us new content and something different from the usual. In case I have some spare time to enjoy, I'll be working on other things aside from Blender projects and my personal things. Until the time comes, you will be surprised to see them. See you next time.
