New updates for: F6F Hellcat and concluding Ho 229 - January 15, 2025
Hello everyone. It's me Antony, back with another Blog here to start 2025.
I know. New year, new big surprises, new big changes and new updates related to my 3D projects.
Now that I'm working on the new role as health community agent, my colleagues and I are visiting the families as part of our job to improve the health quality in our community and town. Things are looking good and we're enjoying in our new role.
And, again, new Nightwave chapter is complete and the 1999 quest is complete. Now the players can fulfill their greatest interest: of kissing a Protoframe (imagining the Warframes without helmets - showing their humans faces, inspired in Darika's artworks).
Note: I don't share too often my gaming content in my Blogs. I don't like the idea of mixing gaming content with other artistic contents there or to relate anything in kind.
But that story will be for another time. For this Blog, I'm going to share you some news and more images of the Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat and the Horten Ho 229.
Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat:
The Hellcat received some updates after my last Blog I wrote with its first renders (New updates for: Horten Ho 229 and F6F Hellcat (new project) - March 22, 2024). I added the USAAF roundels on its wings and fuselage (as usual), with minor changes on its fuselage, elevator and canopy framing. Also, I made the ailerons and flaps from an extracted piece from the wings mesh.
But the major update was the spacing for the landing gear. I had to rely on Boolean. Although I don't use it too often due to unpleasant moments of remaking the mesh after applying that modifier, I tried to make some tests: one based on the schematics after making the fairings and the spacing manually and the other with Boolean applied from the model I made of the fairings. I decided to go for the second option as the official model for the Hellcat's wings.
And lastly, the retractable tail-carriage. I concluded it after searching for photos and pictures from build-up kits. So far, it's looking good.
Next thing to do is adjusting the aircraft - especially the wings for folding its wing tips like I did for the F4U Corsair. Also, next components to add are the pilot seat, dashboard, stick, reflective gunsights, the navigation lights, the Armature to rig it and a nice texture for the F6F-5 Hellcat.
Horten Ho 229 V3:
The Horten Ho 229 received a nice texture and update on its main structure. The major update was the elevons and flaps made from the wings. I had to pay a special attention while working on its models - all extracted from the wings' mesh. In addition, I made the navigation lights with Boolean. As usual, I had to work on its topology and adjusting the vertices to fit with the lights.
Other components added to the Ho 229 are the cockpit components - some imported from the Messerschmitt Me 262, with the exception for the dashboard.
The texture was made with Blender and Gimp. The desired sections painted in Schwarzgrün (black green in German) consisted in Masks made with Blender painting tools and adding it to Gimp as a layer marked as Erase to removed the necessary areas, leaving the ones I wanted to be shown. Same thing for Hellblau (light blue) and Dunkelgrün (dark green). I included the decals to the plane by using Blender itself.
The following renders will show the Ho 229 fully rigged and showing the wearing marks on its wooden construction.
Amazing, huh? The German Horten Ho 229 in its superb appearance. Of all models made, the Horten 229 has been one of the biggest projects after the B-17 and the Lancaster. Full of detail while trying my best of making it without too much polygons.
Without anything else to add (except the bombs for the future), I'll mark it as 'Complete'. The Horten Ho 229 is my first 3D model finished in 2025. The 3D models is available in my Sketchfab:
For this year, I plan to conclude most of my 3D models before starting a new one. I know that I have countless projects to complete in order to resume my Unity projects.
Speaking of Unity, probably this year I'll resume my mini-game projects.
Well, that's it for now my friends. I hope you like this Blog. Welcome to 2025. Let us hope this year bring us new content and something different from the usual. In case I have some spare time to enjoy, I'll be working on other things aside from Blender projects and my personal things. Until the time comes, you will be surprised to see them. See you next time.
