P-38L-5-LO Lightning (new project) - November 27, 2025
Hello everyone. It's me Antony, back with another Blog in 2025. We are now on November 27 - past the half of 2025.
I know. I've been absent without writing anything new here. Updating the computer that I use, back to work after my vacation, studies, playing video-games, watching some YouTube videos, listening to some musics and doing my chores at some moments decreased my spare-time dedicated to Blogs. Still, I'm moving some things from Windows to Fedora Linux. Fortunately my brother and I managed to solve the issue with the HDD. What we did was saving all the content to another computer, cleaning it until nothing is left and prepare it before copying all the files back. At least I can continue my Blender projects and access it on the HDD without downloading it from Drive to the Documents folder and work on the SSD. Same thing to my Unity projects and GIMP. For Easy Paint Tool SAI, I've to use Bottle in order to run it in Linux. I'm not sure about HitFilms. Probably I'll do the same like SAI or other software (run with Bottle or other virtual machine).
Still, it's a new scenario that I still need to learn if I'm going to rely less on Microsoft Windows - or simply leave.
Alright, let's get down to business. I'm going to share you the images of a new project I started these days. I know. I wanted to conclude most of my projects this year. But the desire to start new projects is always complicated. (lol)
The project in question is the Lockheed P-38L-5-LO Lightning.
What a minute. You already have a P-38 Lightning. Right?
I know. I have a P-38 Lightning made in Blender. That one is a P-38F / P-38G variant while this one is a P-38J-15 / P-38L-5 variant. Major differences are the air intake on the nacelles, the addition of dive brakes on the wings that fixed the compressibility issue and other minor changes on its design. The idea behind this model is to print a 3D model for my HobbyBoss P-38 Lightning that I'm building it with the help of my brother (and, sometimes, with my mother's help)
I'm going to show you the renders of this American twin-engine aircraft.
For the Blender model, I decided to remove the mirrors installed on the nacelles and paint it on the main texture. In addition, I added a Roughness texture for the P-38 in order to make it reflect like a true mirror. I applied it to the P-38G model as well.
Here's a small comparison between the nacelles from the two models. The P-38G and the P-38L-5.

| P-38G Lightning - the air intake consist in two holes and a bit short. |

| P-38L-5-LO Lightning - the air intake consist in three ports. |
For the main Diffuse texture, I painted in silver / aluminum. The idea is to avoid using the previous texture while I have to adjust the UV Mapping for the air intake of the nacelles - which looks a bit messed up. But I'll fix it later. In addition, I'll add a dark gray color on the fuselage and some parts of the nacelles and wings. Like the P-51D Mustang and the P-47D-25 Thunderbolt, the P-38J-15 and P-38L-5 models have these locations painted in dark gray to avoid the sunlight being reflected in front of the cockpit.
Other textures will include the Invasion Stripes on the wings and nacelles, the iconic texture for the P-38 from H&G (Heroes & Generals), Bong's P-38 - nicknamed 'Marge' after his girlfriend and my fictional FAB (Força Aérea Brasileira) P-38 Lightning.
Later, I'll share you the images of the P-38 Lightning from HobbyBoss that I bought on the Mercado Livre.
Well, that's it for now my friends. I hope you like this Blog. Let us hope this year bring us new content and something different from the usual. In case I have some spare time to enjoy, I'll be working on other things aside from Blender projects and my personal things. Until the time comes, you will be surprised to see them. See you next time.
